Former shortstop for the Phillies Jimmy Rollins finally hustled. It wasn’t down the first baseline. It wasn’t to the stadium. Rollins hustling came only because he felt he needed to, after about 9 months, respond to Manager Ryne Sandberg benching him during a spring training game in 2014.
“I’ve been busy,” said Rollins when asked why it took him so unbelievably long to speak out about the benching. “We had baseball games to play. I didn’t want to be a distraction.”
Now a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Rollins can speak freely about his time in Philadelphia and what he really thought about the fans and the city. Based on the slow-moving Los Angeles traffic, Rollins may feel more at home there than he ever did in the driveable streets of Philadelphia.
