It was announced last week that former Flyers’ defenseman Chris Pronger would be joining the NHL Safety Department. As Flyers fans know, Pronger’s career was cut short due to
karma injury. What they may not remember as much is how many hard and often dirty hits Pronger put on other players during his prime with the St. Louis Blues; probably forgetting it because they played against Pronger.
The hiring has many people questioning the NHL’s knowledge of the past considering Pronger was not the safest guy to play against. Unfortunately the ineptitude doesn’t seem to stop there.
The NHL appears to be on a binge of hiring former athletes to help move the product forward as men who played professional sports have the best understanding of how these things work.
Currently unemployed NFL running back Adrian Peterson will be in charge of discipline. Forward for the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, Dany Heatley, will be assigned to work on player transportation. Finally there’s actor Stephen Collins who will be helping the NHL create a more “kid-friendly” image.
It doesn’t take an expert to see you’re probably better off learning the names of the KHL players now before the NHL turns into the ultimate clusterfuck.
